Well, I have been living under the rock lately because I just aware Tech war is on between Apple and Adobe a couple days ago, which in fact have been going around for quite sometime.
The problem can be traced back to lack of Flash on Apple mobile devices. The "war" is officially on by Steve Jobs when he published his Thought on Flash on Apple website. According to him Apple decision to abandon Flash is based on technology issues. He claims there’s reliability, security, performance, and technical issue. For starter according to Apple, Flash is the number one reason Macs crash and according to Symantec in 2009 Flash had the worst security records. For technical issue Flash has proven not performed well on mobile devices and to save power mobile devices must decode video in hardware, decoding it in software simply drain much power which mobile devices simply don’t have much. More over current Flash is not playing nice with touch interface.
Adobe co-founders responded in an open letter that was published in newspaper ads as well as their website. Adobe responded Jobs claims:

- Adobe Flash Player runtime originally created as a technology for tablets with touch interface. Existing content that developed with mouse input in mind, Flash Player will automatically convert touch events to mouse events. For new content that specifically developed for touch input, Flash 10.1 will provide a complete set of multitouch and gesture APIs.
- Flash Player 10.1 will include support for hardware-accelerated video playback from mobile devices to desktop environments. This translate to better battery life.
- Flash player is part of a rich ecosystem of both open and proprietary technologies.

While I’m not big fan of Flash, I believe HTML5 and Flash will play along their parts in the future. I believe there’s place for Flash so with HTML5.
